2010 Conference Presentations

Kenya Association of Professional Counselors (KAPC) held its 11th International Counselling conference between the 7th and 9th September 2010, at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi. This year’s Annual conference which coincided with KAPC’s 20th Anniversary Celebrations, provided an opportunity for counselors from various institutions and organizations in countries within Africa and beyond to share and exchange ideas and experiences on issues facing the family and the counselling response towards these issues.


A section of participants

Conference Thematic Areas: The Conference theme was “Issues Facing the Family and the Counselling Response” and was addressed through 40 presentations during the plenary and round table sessions. The subthemes were as follows:Drugs and Alcohol Abuse

  • Domestic Violence
  • Counseling in schools and the adolescent
  • Couple and Marital counseling
  • HIV/AIDS and the family
  • Children, Trauma, Drug Abuse
  • Counselling in context.

The Keynote address on Day 1 was delivered by Dr. Chris Hart, a Relations Psychologist well known for this articles that appear on the Sunday Nation Newspaper on counseling and issues affecting relationships and the family.
