KAPC has been working on programmes targeting persons with disabilities for close to 20 years. Specifically this has included training programmes for persons with various disabilities, physical, hearing, visual, mentally challenged etc. Training programmes in sign language, basic and interpreter levels. Awareness creation and sensitization programmes to the general population on the issues pertaining to persons with disabilities. Installation of appropriate technologies and software for the target population. Inclusion programmes and in the resent years KAPC has engaged in advocacy programmes on the rights for the differently abled population. Development of material that is friendly to this population.

3. DIPLOMA IN COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY

The course is designed for those who wish to gain a practical, professional and academic qualification in counselling. Participants develop an extensive knowledge of psychology and its application to counselling. They also become experienced in the practical skills of counselling and how to achieve therapeutic outcomes for clients.

The programme targeting visually impaired integrates the use of brailed materials, jaws applications to support the learning process while the programme targeting the hearing impaired make use of sign language as a medium of its delivery.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum KCSE C-
• Certificate in Counselling or a relevant field
• Counselling work experience is an added advantage

4. TRAINING ON ICT FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

With the advent of information and communications technology (ICT), new hopes are emerging for PwDs. Despite the huge challenges, sincere efforts are being undertaken to implement the use of ICT to counter obstacles related to disability. KAPC represents at once significant opportunities but also potential new barriers for the social inclusion of disabled people. Information and communications technology and assistive technology offer new opportunities for everyone, but these opportunities are specifically more significant for PwDs, who use assistive technology for their daily activities to a higher extent than people in general. Today’s assistive technology, which is adapted to everyone’s abilities, means that disabled end users are able to participate in all aspects of social life on more equal terms than ever before. It is vital that people are able to benefit on an equal basis from the rapid development of ICT, to enable them to partake in an inclusive and barrier‐free information society.
