This course is intended for individuals who are qualified and practicing counsellors interested in developing professional counselling supervision skills. Careful selection is a prerequisite to ensure that the right person comes for the training. 

The course takes six months with three phases of two taught blocks of two weeks each with an interval of five months field practice between the blocks. The ideal class size for optimal application of training tools and great interaction is a group of twelve participants facilitated by two professionally qualified trainers. The training focuses on participants getting the knowledge and learning the skills in counselling supervision and deeper knowledge and skills counselling supervision. 

CONTENT & METHODOLOGY
People need to be supported during counselling and counselling supervision has developed a theoretical foundation and practical skills that give such support. Acquisition of these skills and mastery of knowledge and theory governing the practice of counselling supervision is best developed through an appropriate training programme. The course is an interactive, skill-practice-based training of participants to enable them learn supervision skills through modelling, observation, practice, use of feedback and evaluation.  

This Advanced Certificate course in Counselling Supervision is both theoretical and practical. The theoretical aspects are based upon the theories that form the foundation of counselling and counselling supervision. The practical skills of counselling supervision are developed in the group. The group gives ample opportunity for participants to learn and practice counselling supervision skills. The sessions are video recorded and the videos are used to allow participants to observe, analyse and improve their own counselling supervision skills.

During the course the participants are encouraged to actively contribute to the learning environment. At the end of the course participants submit an audio recording of a supervision session, which gives evidence of their practical skills. A written commentary accompanies the recording, describing how the theories of counselling and counselling supervision were utilised during the session and an essay on their experiences in forming and supervising a group of counsellors.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum KCSE C-
- Be qualified and practising counsellor.
- Counsellor trainer with a Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma or Masters in counselling.
- Interest and commitment in working as a counsellor and counsellor supervisor
- Interest to learn and understand oneself in relation to counselling supervision
- Where applicable the prospective trainees should be recommended by their employers

Participants who successfully satisfy the course objectives are awarded the Association’s Advanced Certificate in Counselling Supervision.
