Bachelor of Arts in Counselling (BA)

Bachelor of Arts in Counselling (BA)

KAPC’s portfolio of training courses will now be complete with the commencement of the Bachelor of Arts in Counselling (BA). The BA will start in September 2010 and will last for 3 years. This course is being offered by KAPC in collaboration with The University of Manchester UK.
The need for the BA is given further significance because of recent developments in Kenya. There has been a change in the professional career structure and this has led to a demand for an undergraduate degree in counselling.
This demand has been responded to by some training institutions, however some students are forced into choosing degrees in Departments of Psychology, Sociology or Economics which do not support a career path for counselling. Some of these departments lack the professional expertise and practical experience to produce professional counsellors who can fulfil those professional requirements. Consequently, KAPC receives many inquiries for a course at undergraduate level. The BA will respond to this challenge and address the academic concerns and also the employer’s concerns.  The business case for offering the BA is attested to by the strong demand for the undergraduate programme.
The demand will make the programme sustainable and KAPC will be able to recruit widely. As the BA is an undergraduate programme the entry criteria have been set at Grade ‘C+’ at KCSE. We also expect to see that prospective students have followed a course of study in counselling and if they have related work experience this is an added advantage.
We expect to see a lot of interest in the BA in 2010.
